After performing Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols with her choir, choral director and composer Elinor A. Armsby was inspired to set one of the texts from this collection, I Sing of a Maiden, to a more hushed, lullaby-like melody. In addition, she wrote music for Tidings True to accompany the first song as a gift to her choir, a joyous and lively piece. Though conceived as a set, the two carols may be performed together or separately, in any order.
