PrefaceThe emphasis of the present etudes is on systematic exercises for the left hand. The lower positions demanded above all in orchestral playing, and the accompanying physical effort required, are consciously employed here in many variants and offer outstanding practice material. At the beginning, a slow, constant tempo should be paramount, the tempo then being increased with the aid of a metronome.
